"Antioxidants" – Hype or Reality – Efforts towards the Bioquantisation of antioxidants

Prof. (Dr.) Jai P Mittal, FNA,FASc, FNASc, FTWAS

Prof. Jai P Mittal is presently holding prestigious DAE Raja Ramanna Chair at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai. He did MSc from Meerut College, Ph.D. from University of NOTRE DAME, USA, Post Doc. (1968), Univ. of California, Los Angeles, USA (with Prof. W.F. Libby, Noble Prize) & Post Doc. (1969), University of California, Berkeley, USA (with Prof. M. Calvin, Noble Prize).

Prof. Mittal was Director, Chemistry & Isotope Group, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai. His research interest ranges from Photo and Radiation Chemistry, Photo and Radiation Biology, Study of Free Radicals by Ultra Fast Spectroscopic Techniques, Femto & Picosecond Laser pump & probe spectroscopy, Electron Accelerator based Pulse Radiolysis, Infra Red Laser Induced Chemistry.

He has published more than 350 Research papers in peer reviewed International Journals and guided 35 Ph.D Students. He was President, National Academy of Sciences, India (2003-04), President, Indian Chemical Society (1998-99), President, Indian Society of Radiation & Photochemistry (1999-2002), President, Asian Photochemistry Association (2003-06). He is Fellow of Indian National Science Academy, FNA (1988), Fellow of Indian Academy of Science Academy, FASc (1986), Fellow of Academy of Sciences for the developing World (2000).

He has been awarded Humbold Senior Research Award (Germany 2002), “Padma Shree” by the President of India (2003), Fulbright Award (USA), Senior J.S.PS Award (Japan), Hony. Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Research, Hon. Distinguished Professor, IIT, Bombay.
