Every living creature comes in to existence not only with very basic instinct of survival against all odds, but to achieve maximum growth even in the most hostile environment in best of its health.
In the endeavor to achieve overall growth and heavy industrialization, the mankind also came across various kinds of self generated as well as natural hazards and threats to its health and environment posing a big question mark on the mere existence of mankind.
The environmental factors can have a negative impact on human health and opinion polls show that researchers and scientists World over are increasingly concerned about this issue. In addition, there are worrying trends that reinforce this concern. Cancer rates are rising at around 1% per year, while fertility rates are declining in some countries. Allergies and asthma are also up around 5% per year. Air pollution and exposure to chemicals are commonly cited as possible causes, while potential risks stemming from emerging technologies like mobile phones and nanotechnology need to be carefully assessed. It is also becoming apparent that climate change can be associated with a variety of health effects, from those relating to heat and floods to those linked with changing distribution of infectious diseases.
To meet the challenges to the human health and environment is possible by adopting a comprehensive multidisciplinary research approach inviting attention of all researchers of all branches of core science subjects, Medical Sciences, and emerging areas in environmental engineering and microbiology etc.. This combined approach can yield immediate and long-term health benefits by mitigating established environmental risks, identifying risky situations for disease emerging and finding the causes of diseases of unknown etiology.
The forthcoming Humboldt Kolleg will further espouse the cause and need for adopting a comprehensive multidisciplinary research approach by invoking and involving the expertise of researchers and scientists of all research areas.
